The Objective:
To promote a holistic view of sustainability and the commitment of countries to improve their performance.
The Narration:
The sustainability of production systems is a growing concern for consumers and organizations that represent countries and civil societies. However, recent discussions on this matter have not yet allowed for a holistic approach as have only partially addressed the effects over the environment. The growing pressure on production systems to be more sustainably efficient poses the challenge of creating universal measurement indicators and tailored improvement strategies. Considering social and economic sustainability makes the task more arduous; at one end there is the mere sight of a single effect and at the other, the complex view of multiple effects.
The Starters:
- What are the consequences of a partial and incomplete vision of sustainability in production systems? and what are the consequences if instead of taking action we wait to develop a broader and unifying view?
- How long will it take us to develop and agree on a holistic view of sustainability? and how will it affect production levels?
- Is livestock farming the problem or the solution?
