The Objective:
To put in perspective the value of prospective exercises.
The Narration:
The agents of the meat chain look forward to economic and production forecasts to be aware of opportunities and threats. This kind of exercises can focus on the short, medium or long term. Some times we need to question the link between prospective exercises and decisions for different time periods. Economic and production forecasts provide with relevant inputs for the short term, maybe because things are most likely to happen, or maybe because meat prices are partly speculative. However, we need to discuss about the usefulness of forecasts to long term decisions in order to invest in technology and structure.
The Starters:
- What were the game changers in the last failed prospective exercises? What have we learned from that?
- What will the effects of technology be over productions systems? Do you expect production systems to change or will it just be adding resources to the same know how?
- What are the scenarios for meat production in the next 15 years? Is any of these most likely to happen or we need to prepare for uncertainty?
